“Good Food, Lively Pub atmosphere”
Reviewed 17 February 2012

My Partner and I attended last night.

It was a good crowd, with a lively pub atmosphere and good music (If you like Rock/Alternative music which I happen to and was being played last night on the speaker system). The service was also very attentive.

We both had Pie and Mash which was an enormous portion and was very nice indeed, all completely polished off.

Would definitely go again.

“Great atmosphere including a fire in the fireplace”

Great Pub on St. Nicholas in city centre. Cozy setting with a good fire going in the cold weather. Food is good and overall reasonably priced.

Great for a break when browsing St Nicholas Market. Food is always lovely, good choice of real ale. Service excellent - friendly and fast! Good value for money and a lovely atmospehere and oddly never seems to be busy! Log fires in winter - lovely!

“Excellent food”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

I was on a business trip in Bristol, I went for a wonder to find some dinner.

I thought I would give the Elephant a go, I have to say it was the best simple honest food I have had in a pub\restuart ever, it was pure simplicity, no fussy sauces or heavy veg combo's. I had the Thyme roast chicken.

Well recomended

The Elephant is everything it says on the box, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back for more. Keep up the good work at the Elephant. Tim H.

“Lovely Evening”

I booked the function room at the elephant for a birthday party. The staff offered waiter service and were wonderfully attentive. Both food and the array of drinks available were also very good. I would recommend the elephant to anyone who needs to hold a function in central bristol.

“Great food, good location, lovely staff.”

When " the girls" go out for the day food features fairly highly on the "things that need to be right " list. We hate samey restaurants that can be found in every town across the country and always try to hunt out local gems. The Elephant is just off the main routes, handy for the theatre, Broad Quay and Cabot Circus in a beautiful building. The extensive menu really did have something for everyone and the bar offered a good range of beers and ciders as well as a very drinkable house white. The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. The food was fabulous, tasty well seasoned and good value for money. We are now planning our next trip to Bristol and The Elelphant!!!

“Best Roast Dinner EVER”
Reviewed 16 September 2011
My large family and I went here for Sunday roast, we were quite late but the staff were fine about it. We all had roast dinners with different meats and it was the most perfectly cooked roast dinner I've ever tasted. It was quite a wait for the food but REALLY worth it. Everything was home made, fresh and had lots of effort gone into it. We all agreed! Chilled vibe and nice decor, if i could go every Sunday I would.

“Brilliant!”

“Best burger in Bristol”
Reviewed 5 August 2011
I've been on something of a quest to find the best burgers in all the cities I frequently go to, and in Bristol The Elephant wins hands down.
We've spent a couple of lunchtimes and after work hours here in the last few weeks and find it pleasant and friendly, both from the pub itself and it's staff.

“Very pleasently suprised.”
Reviewed 25 July 2011
We went for a very late Sunday lunch so it was quiet, but they were playing good music so that didn't matter. The staff were all friendly and polite. The roast dinner really was good! I had the roast lamb which was cooked to perfection and really soft and juicy. The roasters were crispy, the yorkshire home made and the veg really tasty. The other half had the pork which also was soft and moist with cracking cracking! I'm not into puddings but the taste of brownie I had and the eton mess both seemed very nice. We've not been overly impressed out by Sunday roasts, but this is one I would recommend!

“Lovely pub, gorgeous food”

I took my husband here for his birthday meal and we had an absolutely lovely meal. The service and food were amazing... its just a shame that the restaurant was so quiet! If you're thinking about going to The Elephant stop thinking and get yourselves down there!

“Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff.”

We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and had such a nice time we didn't leave until much later than planned! Excellent wine list and cocktails, staff also very helpful to mix up my favourite. The ladies was also very nicely done- always a good sign. Would highly recommend The Elephant to anyone.

“Excellent light lunch”
Reviewed 12 April 2011
We have been here before when they opened in June but had not had any food so I decided to try it out for lunch after reading a number of good reviews. The food was very good - I had a starter portion of the thai beef salad served with a light dressing. The menu is more up market than most pubs and it has a wide range of reasonably priced food including Sunday lunch. Inside it is light with pale yellow walls decorated with old pub advertisements and a stripped wood bar. The ambience is good with friendly welcoming staff. It is a place where you can go to relax and enjoy a drink. They do also cater for those who wish to enjoy watching special sporting events such as the recent rugby tournament.

“One of the nicest sunday lunches had in a while...”

Horrible weather outside and well this venue is no longer a gay bar, after recent referb its fresh clean big oak tables and a lovely atmosphere, very cosey and inviting. The lunch was good and the service too. Staff very helpful this is a forgotton pub but would use for all occasions.

“Real food, fresh and perfectly cooked, in a welcoming, clean pub, superb service, great value”
Reviewed 9 March 2011
We booked using a Groupon voucher and were treated to a truly delicious meal, by genuinely caring staff. It was unbelievable value with the voucher, but we'd happily return and pay the usual (still terrific value) prices for this sort of service. Bare wood tables and floor gives this wonderful city centre pub a clean and natural feel. This is not a boozer with food, or a restaurant with drinks....its a relaxed environment that perfectly balances needs of eaters and drinkers without making either feel unwelcome. Stroll on...

“Good food, good staff and a good time.”
Reviewed 3 March 2011
Although we live in Bath having left London a few years ago we have not explored Bristol as much as we should have. The farmers market on Wednesday was great and lunch at the Elephant was just what was needed after too much walking. The ribeye steak we ordered was an inch thick and was delicious. Will be back.

“Very good, quality 'pub' food”
Reviewed 9 November 2010
I've put 'pub' in quotation marks, as this isn't a pub as such, but it's not really a gastro pub either - although it looks like a combination of both. It's very casual dining with really tasty and well prepared food, in a stripped back renovated pub (I'm guessing it used to be a traditional pub, but not sure). The staff pretty much leave you to your own devices once you've ordered, which is ideal as far as I'm concerned.
